Called to Become

Before anything beautiful grows, there is a season of unseen work.

The soil must be broken. The seeds must be planted.

And the waiting, the watering, the weeding, the trusting begins.

Our hearts are no different.

Before we step fully into what God has called us to become,

He tends to the soil of our hearts, preparing us to carry the weight of the calling.

It is not always easy, but it is always worth it, because what we plant now determines

the harvest to come.

Maybe you have felt that tension lately.

It was one of those mornings. The alarm went off late, your phone was buzzing with emails

before you got the chance to say your morning prayer, and suddenly,

you’re trying to manage emails, texts, and morning calls along with breakfast .

You laugh to keep from crying, then wonder how you got so far from the

peace you prayed for just yesterday.

Maybe you have had a moment like that recently, a moment where you ask, “God… is this it? Is this what you called me to?”

The truth is, many of us are in a season of becoming, balancing the busyness of life

with a longing for deeper purpose.

And right there, in the middle of the chaos, God whispers a powerful reminder: You are called.

But called to what? Called to become the Church.

Not a building. Not a program. But the called out.

When Jesus began His ministry, His desire was to take us from religion to relationship.

A relationship made possible through His death and resurrection.

Yet even now, many of us still struggle with our connection to God.

Why? Because we have become a society too busy to connect.

Too busy scrolling to notice the person next to us.Too preoccupied to pause and invite the Holy Spirit into our day.

And it is the Holy Spirit who works on our hearts and transforms our minds.

In Matthew 16:13–20, Jesus told Peter,"On this rock I will build My church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

He was not talking about a structure.

He was talking about a people.

He was talking about you.

When you declare a thing on earth, Heaven's resources are fighting for you.

Psalm 91 declares, “No evil will touch you; when you make God your refuge, He will order His angels to protect you so that you won't even hurt your foot on a stone.”

But becoming who God has called you to be does not happen overnight. It is a process. A journey.

And in that process, you must give yourself grace.

Be hurt before you are healed.

Rest before you begin your race.

Grieve before you grow.

True transformation starts in the soil of your heart. But if that soil is hardened by disappointment, bitterness, or fear, how can the Holy Spirit work through it?

Take care of your heart. Because what you plant is what you will produce.

Dr. Anita Phillips said it best:"When you take care of the soil of your heart, what you produce will be a life you can maintain."

Becoming, is an ongoing process — a lifelong journey. We will be "becoming" until our very last breath. Throughout every season, we must pause and do a heart check.

Not just to check our posture, but to ask: "What have I planted?"

The Bible says, "You shall know them by their fruit. “ The fruit God wants to grow in your life is not found on stages or in accolades. It is the fruit of the Spirit:love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

We celebrate external success, but what are we producing spiritually?

Be more concerned with your spiritual fruit, and your physical fruit will simply become a by product of your walk with the Spirit.

That is when people will ask, "How did you get here?"And your answer will be simple:

I met a man named Jesus. When I gave my life to Him in baptism, I received an inheritance —

the Holy Spirit — and He has been walking with me and talking with me ever since.

When I fall, He reminds me that I am His own. He has been training me to love my enemies.

Training me to rest and rely on him so I can keep my peace."

To be called means you’ve been given an assignment, with that came authority.

You have the power and the capacity to see it through.

And yes, the enemy will try to stop you.

But remember: the gates of hell cannot prevail against you.

In Matthew 16, Jesus asked His disciples,"Who do you say that I am?"

That question is still being asked today. We need to constantly remind ourselves of who Jesus is.

It was Peter’s confession that brought forth the revelation of the Kingdom of God.

How we see Him matters.

Who is He to you?

Is He the King of Kings?

Is He the Lord of Lords?

Is He the Son of the Living God in your life?

If you’re in a season of becoming and you don't know what is next, check the soil

of your heart before you move forward.

Are you planting seeds of faith or seeds of doubt?

Ask yourself: "Is my heart good soil for God to plant in?"

God has not built a physical kingdom, but a kingdom within you — to transform you from the inside out. When we rest, reset our hearts, and tend the soil of our spirit, we become ready to

receive a fresh word from the Holy Spirit. And when we live in step with Him, we move from simply being called to becoming.

Becoming the Kingdom of God here on earth.

Becoming the people He has destined us to be.

Prayer:

Father show me how to tend to the soil of my heart and prepare it for you to do as you will. Help me Holy Spirit to surrender those things that are confusing in my life and just doesn’t make sense. Help me to trust you more , Father. When it is all said and done I look forward to hearing you say, “well done, welcome home”
