I'm Covered

The Winter season has come again, bringing in the cold weather that makes you want to stay cuddled by a warm fireplace all day. This season not only gives us warm feelings of love but cold feelings of loss. We plan for the months ahead and begin to feel anxious and worried about what lies ahead. If you’ve had a grueling year as I did, it can be easy to be fearful of the future, but don’t worry; God has you covered! Covered under the blood of Jesus. “He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.” Ephesians 1:7 NLT

When we think of God, we may not think of Him as someone who would physically give blood for us to receive a physical transfusion. However, He sent his son to shed his blood for us to receive a spiritual transfusion while on the cross. This past year I unknowingly became in need of blood. My body tried to warn me that I was running on empty, but I wouldn’t have known it was a dire situation until I shared my symptoms with my aunt. She explained the urgency of my case, and the following day, I called the doctor and received a call back to get an emergency blood transfusion. Immediately I became fearful, nervous, and worried about my health.
The next day, my mom and I went to the appointment, and right away, I was asked to sign my signature on the bottom line of each paper. It may sound small to you, but I felt I was signing my life over. Before I signed my last paper, I prayed, “Lord, let this be your blood that I receive today. Let it cleanse and heal my body through and through.” The doctor finally explained that my blood count was severely low and that I could have had a stroke or heart attack. Then, my spirit was reminded of the covering I received when I became a child of God. It was a warming reassurance to know that I was covered!
What does it mean to be covered by the blood of Jesus? Romans 8: 30 tells us that By his blood, we are justified by having our sins forgiven, sanctified, being set apart from the world, glorified, and being deemed righteous through the blood of Jesus. If you find yourself in a similar situation, remember what you know. We know that God causes everything to work together for those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose. Having known us beforehand, He called us, gave us a right standing with himself, and by giving us this right standing, he gave us glory. After all of this, “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” Romans 8:31 NLT
